If you are just pregnant and wondering what to do next… you could have an experienced midwife involved in your care, while you explore options and find a labor and birth provider. Vera’s early pregnancy services include:
- Remote and in-person visits to confirm your pregnancy and discuss your questions.
- She provides requisitions and interpretation of routine and optional pregnancy tests, life-style counseling, physical assessment, pregnancy, labor, birth + postpartum information, community resource information and reassurance.
- Early pregnancy clients also have access to Vera’s onpage email contact system for questions or additional telephone consultation, outside of their scheduled visits.
- Their care is transferred to a birth provider before, or by the time that they are 28 weeks pregnant.
- Before leaving Vera’s early pregnancy care, if they want her postpartum services, she will schedule a 3rd trimester visit, as well as provide their birth provider a copy of their records.
In the chance that an early pregnancy does not go well, clients have Vera to provide them support and referral services in these hard circumstances too.
If you are further along in your pregnancy, already have a birth provider and are wondering what happens after birth: how you will heal, how to feed your baby and early parent… You have an opportunity to plan and book the postpartum services of an experienced midwife.
Vera’s postpartum services include:
- One visit with Vera in your 3rd trimester to meet and communicate your intentions for nurturing and parenting your baby, and to discover how Vera can best support your needs.
- At least 2-3 home visits in the first week after the birth of your baby.
- From week 2 postpartum, there are at least 3 office visits, before you are discharged from midwifery services around 6-8weeks postpartum.
- During visits, both you and your baby will have a primary-care physical assessment.
- Support and education are also provided.
- Referral to specialist or community care as needed.
- Postpartum families also have access to Vera’s onpage email contact system for questions or additional telephone consultation, outside of their scheduled visits. This service is available between 8am and midnight 7 days a week. If an urgent concern arises between midnight and 8am, Vera’s clientele go to LGH ER.
Once you have confirmed with Vera that she can take you into her practice. The services described above are covered by MSP.
